Jones, USMC, U.S. Marine Coprs Commandant highlighting the Night with extemporaneous remarks and Admiral Joseph W. Prueher, USN, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet giving the keynote address. |

Members of IMMF and others travel to Hawaii and Midway for seven days. The week included a Battle of Midway Symposium in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (the panel of which included Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, USN (Ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Midway veterans and historians); a bronze plaque dedication ceremony honoring LCDR Joseph J. Rochefort, USN, and his men in the Naval Intelligence Unit at "HYPO" in Pearl Harbor; bronze plaque ceremonies on Eastern Island to MAG-22 and the Sixth Marine Defense Battalion Reinforced; a fly-by of F/A-18s from the USS CONSTELLATION during this ceremony; Pearl Harbor's First Annual Midway Night, held at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel; and an End-of-the-War Dedication Ceremony aboard the USS MISSOURI. |

The Foundation hosts a week's series of events in Hawaii commemorating the desigantion of Midway Atoll as a National Memorial consisting of a two-day Battle of Midway symposium, a rededication ceremony to the men of the Combat Intelligence Unit, and a ceremony commemorating the designation of the Midway Atoll as a National Memorial on board the USS Missouri. The Honorable Daniel K. Akaka from Hawaii gave the keynote address and Midway veterans unveiled the newly-designed Midway National Memorial flag. The newly minted sterling silver Midway National Memorial Commemorative coins were presented to veterans and others. The week's events ended on the evening of June 4 on board the Missouri with the Foundation hosting a champagne reception followed by the Fifth Annual Midway Night Dinner and dance. Lieutenant General Henry C. Stackpole, USMC (Ret.) was President of the Mess, and Admiral Thomas B. Fargo, USN, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet gave the keynote address. |

The ceremony also included the following distinguished speakers: Keynote speaker Secretary of Interior the Honorable Dirk Kempthrone; Assistant Secretary of the Navy, BJ Penn; Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle and Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Admiral Robert F. Willard, USN. IMMF hosts a meeting at the Halekulani Hotel with all interested parties to discuss the idea of an extended Pearl Harbor National Memorial Monument which would include other World War II historic sites in the Pacific, including Midway Atoll. |
